Export Sector|China's Textile and Apparel Industry Seeks Breakthroughs Amid Trade Frictions

Time:2025/4/24 9:52:15View:20

Amid accelerated evolution of the global economic landscape, China's textile and apparel industry faces three major trends in trade friction: persistently high case volumes, surging reviews, and emerging investigative measures. In 2024, the industry saw a record 25 trade remedy cases involving US$1.63 billion, with chemical fiber products (nearly half of cases) heavily targeted by Türkiye, the U.S., and others. Notably, anti-circumvention investigations (14 cases since 2019) and rising U.S. Section 337 risks highlight evolving challenges.

The sector confronts triple pressures: a 2025 wave of expiring trade remedy measures triggering reviews, cross-border "chain reactions" (e.g., nylon filament yarn facing 10 cases across three nations), and escalating technical barriers like IP disputes. Chemical fibers, prized for durability and versatility, remain focal points in cases involving polyester filament yarns and other key materials.

China Textile & Apparel Council (CTAC) has built a multi-layered response system. In 2024, it supported successful defense in Brazil’s polyester filament anti-dumping case, launched compliance databases, and provided specialized training. For 2025, CTAC will deepen collaborative mechanisms, strengthen IP guidance, and promote market diversification to navigate trade barriers.
